2012  TRIPS
There is a New Dive SHOP IN TOWN!!!!!
The "front side" of the island offers some of the best water clarity (30' to 80'+) and the best diving conditions in Southern California for photographers and the mellow diver. Currents are generally mild and there's always a calm and clear site to dive. There is also good lobster and scallop hunting to be found. Several dive sites are ideally suited for open water or advance SCUBA training as well as deep or night dive training. You will also love feeding the bright orange Garibaldi, the CA state fish. One favorite site is Ship Rock, a nearby small rock of an island surrounded by 300'+ depths. This is one of the few sites that you will see the rare, yet docile, Angel Shark which can grow up to 6' in length.
Catalina Island, CA
Located approximately 25 miles south of Santa Catalina, San Clemente Island is known for it's great variety. Clemente is home to consistently good water clarity, usually better than that found at Catalina. Typical visibility is 60' - 80'+. Northwest Harbor is home of the shipwreck USS Butler, a naval destroyer sitting on a 80' sandy bottom that we sometimes dive. The "backside" of San Clemente is known for abundant lobsters , pink and green abalone, and good spear fishing. Here there are many isolated deep water reef systems and pinnacles such as "9-fathoms" which offers clear water, rock scallops, purple coral colonies, plus big fish.
San Clemente Island, CA
This little gem of an island is located about 45 miles west of our berth and is a favorite spot for many. This is the home to hundreds of California Sea Lions and Harbor Seals and they often will become your dive buddies. Located here is Arch Reef, a huge submerged underwater archway in a rock wall that you can easily swim through. Lots of game fish, abalone, rock scallops and lobster make this island their home. Brittle StarReef is another popular macro photography dive site. Here the bottom literally moves because it is blanketed with millions of moving starfish arms.
Santa Barbara Island, CA
Ambergris Caye encourages visitors to kick off their shoes and just relax. At 36 miles long, Ambergris is the largest of the cayes in Belize. Located in the northern-most waters of the country, three-quarters of a mile west of the Belize Barrier Reef, the island is surrounded by prominent dive and snorkel sites, including the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley.   The largest town on Ambergris Caye is San Pedro. Renowned for its barefoot lifestyle and island vacation appeal, the primary mode of transportation on the town’s cobblestone streets are via golf carts. In the town and along the beaches to the north and south, visitors will find an  blend of restaurants, shops, funky bars, a host of boutique hotels, and numerous condominium complexes. The busiest of Belize’s visitor destinations, San Pedro, retains its relaxed atmosphere and remains far from the glitz and noise of a city. A perfect atmosphere for after diving fun!

When National Geographic picks its Top 10 Greatest Adventures they do so with the knowledge that just the run of the mill things won’t do it. They look for things that are interesting, educational and unique. They found those things at the Bonne Terre Mines and chose them for their list of the Top 10.  Not only was this one of the earliest led mines in Missouri, it was also the worlds largest producer of led ore. The mining began in 1860 and continued until 1962.  There are 5 levels to the mine, which is actually larger than the town of Bonne Terre. The lower three levels form a seventeen mile long illuminated Underground "Billion Gallon Lake", which was filmed and dived by the well known diver, Jacques Cousteau. It is also the home of the world’s largest inland scuba diving resort. You can also take a boat tour on the lake. It is the world’s largest fresh water dive resort. The visibility is over 100 feet at all times.  Now you can dive the mines and participate in the exciting annual Treasure Hunt. On Saturday you will do 2 dives, hunting for tokens within the mine. After your dives, you can enjoy some fun above ground where there will be live music, games to play, and several vendors showing off their destinations and gear. Each vendor will offer special event discounts as well. A delicious BBQ dinner will be served and the auction will follow. Here you can use the tokens you found in the mine to bid on over $30,000 of "treasure" that has been donated by the vendors. You could win a fabulous liveaboard dive trip and other cool dive gear.
